Monthly Archives: January 2012

I confess, I’m still dizzy from the gi-normous response Tom Woods’ posting evoked on the 11th…the feeling reminds me of my healthy days just after exiting a roller coaster. It’s a reaction to the power of all that goodwill and empathy from all of the people responding that day, no doubt. The almost electric feeling of all that power unleashed at once was exhilarating…almost frightening.

Obviously, my suspicion that soliciting this kind of support from a well regarded person like Tom Woods would be a significant boost for the cause was short of the mark when compared with the reality. As Ron Paul has his money bombs, the events of the 11th were a ‘publicity bomb,’ if you like. I’m still in shock, but I feel great. Not only did the project experience a major move forward, eradicating any doubts I might still have had whether this nutty idea was something that would work, but I thoroughly enjoyed the adrenaline rush that came from being in the middle of it.

A few things are obvious to me at this point:

The question of whether this venture will work and end up getting me mobile again has been answered.

People are every bit as generous and caring as I’d suspected, when given the chance.

The only remaining question in my mind is no longer if I’ll get my mobility back, but when. I’m feeling better today than I have for years, and you good folks out there are the direct cause.

Thank you all!

Dr. Tom Woods Joins the Fray!

Dr. Thomas Woods

I knew good things would happen when Dr. Thomas Woods, New York Times bestselling author of 11 books, liberty activist, and a genuinely decent human being, agreed to lend a hand in my cause, but I’m just floored by just how good they’d be when he published my original letter to him requesting his aid on his web site today, along with notifying his many fans about it on his Facebook page.

I’m cursing this foul insomnia since I’ve hit the wall and need to grab some shuteye, but I wanted to get something up before I get horizontal. This blog has accrued more views in the hour and a half than in its first month of existence, and I don’t doubt they’ll be off the scale by tonight. Donations are rolling in from all over the world, and the comments I’ll need to respond to are piling up.

It’ll be a pleasant task replying to those comments, writing thank-you notes to these new donors, and following up on today’s event when I get up tonight.

Dr. Woods, you have my profound gratitude and thanks for your efforts…you’ve made this a a magnificent day for me. I don’t know how I can return the favor, but you’d best believe I’ll be trying hard! With this kind of support, I haven’t the slightest doubt this blog’s goal of getting me mobile and restoring much of my life will be accomplished in short order!

If you folks reading this aren’t yet familiar with Dr. Woods’ work…well, you oughtta be. For now, allow me to share his lighter side with y’all with his now-famous ‘Interview with a Zombie,’ it’s classic. You won’t be sorry when you subscribe to his YouTube channel, TomWoodsTV.

Do You Bitcoin?

Back in September, a commenter to this blog suggested the following:

“You should look in to BitCoin and consider accepting donations in Bitcoins rather than just paypal. Much cheaper/easier to send small amounts of money, you’ll get some attention just for accepting bitcoins and while never certain, it is not unlikely any holdings you have in BCs will skyrocket in value over the next months and years.”

I’d completely forgotten about that but thought of it again this evening, so I went ahead and signed up. I’m only beginning to learn how the Bitcoin system works, but it’s been popping up to grab my attention with some frequency recently. Apparently it’s getting quite popular and quite a few people prefer it to using PayPal. Not one to limit the choices of any would-be donors, I’ll be adding my Bitcoin address along with the PayPal donate buttons.

What the heck, as my Jewish grandmother used to say with a shrug, “It vouldn’t hoit!”

Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch

I confess I’ve been feeling a bit antsy as I wait for help with the blog that should be underway from a couple of fairly big guns that recently offered to aid the cause. I know intellectually that these things don’t happen overnight, but the reality that my life is bleeding out as time goes by is always on my mind, that every day that passes while I remain a prisoner is gone forever. There are no do-overs. What keeps me reasonably sane?

Happily, I can think of a few reasons without even straining:

It seems that the value of the internet as a vital communication tool is growing exponentially. I’ve maintained for years that the internet is several magnitudes of importance more significant to humankind than the invention of movable type was and that view is being reaffirmed more and more all the time. There are an awful lot of potentially dangerous situations evolving in the world, but for the first time in history they haven’t simply overrun humanity like a juggernaut, with nothing to impede them. It’s clear, at least to me, that while they continue to threaten, they are being thwarted more and more by peoples’ ability to forestall many of them by assuring they’re kept visible and monitored with little opportunity for behind the scenes manipulation by individuals or groups that in the past could have concealed their doings with ease. That’s a validation of the aphorism ‘sunlight is the best disinfectant,’ and one of my biggest hopes is that the internet remains unmolested.

In that line, I get a strong feeling that even an ordinary schmoe like me can make a difference in the world by writing, discussing and helping educate people on a lot of issues that were simply swept under the rug before the internet came into prominence. It’s a truism that truths mesh seamlessly in every aspect while falsehoods and irrationality clash all the time…the internet is no different, but it has the bonus of speed. Since things happen faster, people can see this truism proven over and over much more easily than in the past, and can see the patterns that emerge more efficiently. We may be witnessing the beginning of a genuinely new paradigm in human affairs, and that’s mighty encouraging!

So, yeah, I have my days when frustration and pain threaten to overtake me, but these negatives can never be overshadowed by the positives…all the factors that sustain me and give me very real hope for the future. Hope not just for me, but for humanity in general that things are quietly improving in a steady way…and it’s accelerating.

Stay Tuned!

Wow, the first blog entry of the New Year and I’m already pretty excited…Great Things appear to be afoot.

Plans that were set in motion months ago are in motion and I believe we’re poised on the brink of seeing the blog really take off. I’ll be adding more information as soon as I can, y’all will know of any developments almost as soon as I do.

Thanks, folks!
